“D vs. UV”
Vitamin D deficiency vs. UV radiation. What to do?!
It’s National UV Safety Month and there is a great deal of information available on how to protect ourselves from damaging UV radiation; use sunscreen, wear hats and correct clothing, wear sunglasses with UV protection and avoid long periods of sun exposure.
However, sunlight is the main source of vitamin D, which is needed to help the body absorb calcium for bone and muscle health. What do we do? use balance and common sense. A small amount of sunlight daily is good for us and some research indicates that the benefits of sunscreen use can be obtained without compromising vitamin D levels.
We NEVER need to compromise UV protection for our eyes. Wear fabulous sunglasses from American Vision at the Court 100% of the time and enjoy your summer!
